2003, one day participatory performance event
commissioned for Grizedale Arts, Lake District, England
Getting married is one of the most creative and emotional moments in people’s lives. The event “Let’s get married today!” aimed to enhance this activity.
On September 13th, 2003 two local couples celebrated their open weddings at the Grizedale Visitor Center. All aspects of the day were open to the public and involved them in a participatory way, through a wide range of artworks and performances. We were provided with a big, empty tent and invited Doddy and Crystal, two sheep living on a nearby farm, to publicize the story of their marriage. We set up a stage with lights and mic and provided props, so wedding guests would feel encouraged to share their own stories and expose themselves for interaction with the sheep.
